Seasons of Love: Best of 2010

It's only natural during this time of year to start reflecting on the year as a whole, evaluating how you lived these moments of 2010 that completely soared by! As I've been thinking about 2010, the song "Seasons of Love" from Rent keeps popping into my brain.

"How do you measure, measure a year?

In daylights, in sunsets, in midnights, in cups of coffee?

in inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife?

In 525,600 minutes?

How do you measure a year in the life?

How about love? Measure in Love. Seasons of Love. "

Measure in love? Yes, I think that's a good ruler to use. And by these standards, I have had an incredible year! I've been witness to so much love this year!

I decided to pull a few of my favorite moments of the year together:

There were some hot summer days this year!!

I witnessed some great friends tie the knot with out all the frills of the big wedding (below). This was probably one of the most beautiful and honest expressions of the love between two people I've ever seen.

Definitely a memorable moment (above)!! Cindy and Keith did a flawless argentinian tango for their first dance.

This photo, below, won 8th place in the WPJAs Quarter 3 contest under the category of "Other vendors". The WPJA has members all of the world and I'm always extremely honored to place in one of their contests.

Another extremely memorable moment came this fall at the wedding of Cassandra Cherco and Tripper Shea when Cassy (who had recently recovered from Chemo) tossed off her wig on her way into the reception!!

I lost it during this moment (above). This was the purest and most beautiful reaction to seeing his bride walk down the aisle. And he still had that look on his face at the end of the night (below). So much love!

This year ended with a white Christmas spent with my family in Raleigh, NC. Here's a photo of my 2-year old nephew, Wes, playing in the snow the day after Christmas.

I feel thankful and honored that I'm surrounded by so much love and am already excited about all the new and beautiful moments that 2011 will bring.

Kristina and Jon in Roanoke, VA

What a FANTASTIC thanksgiving weekend I had at the wedding of Jon Hillman and Kristina Montuori in Roanoke, VA. Jon and Kristina met playing soccer at UNC-Asheville (They were both #9 and played the same position!!) and were married in Kristina's hometown of Roanoke, VA this past Saturday, Nov. 27th.

Here are a few highlights from this love-filled wedding day:

Saturday morning, while Kristina was getting ready for her wedding day, she got a letter from Jon (above and below). This was such a sweet moment!

In the Italian tradition, Kristina's family lined up outside her house as she headed off to the church, tossing flower petals and coins at her for luck (above).

St. Andrew's Catholic Church in downtown Roanoke is SO beautiful!

The Limo took myself and the wedding party around Roanoke for some photos! This wedding party was so much fun!!

Jon gave his groomsmen the coolest gift: Custom superhero cufflinks! Jon's superhero identity is Superman!

We made a stop at the grocery store (below) for more champagne and a little fun!

Jon and Kristina's reception took place at the Hotel Roanoke and it was so beautiful there!

Kristina and Jon shared the sweetest last dance of the night I've ever seen! It made my eyes swell to watch Jon wipe Kristina's sweet tears. There is so much love between these two!

Last Saturday, Nov. 27th, Kate and I traveled up to Roanoke, VA for the GORGEOUS wedding of Kristina Montuori and Jon Hillman. I'm still working on the blog post for the event, but thought I'd go ahead and share some bridal portraits I shot with Kristina this October. As you can see, Kristina is an incredibly beautiful bride! More photos from the big day to come in the next day or so!

Erin and Chris in Raleigh, NC

Saturday, Nov. 13, I had the HONOR of being a part of the wedding of Erin Duff and Chris Koontz. Every once in a while, my job grants me the unique and special privilege to reunite with old friends during one of the most important times in their lives. This is one of my absolute favorite parts of my job.

When Erin contacted me that she was engaged, I was thrilled! I grew up with the Duffs. Erin drove me to school when I was a freshman in high school; Her brother, Bill and I were friends; and I used to babysit for her younger sister, Claire (all grown up now!). So you could imagine that seeing Erin in her wedding dress last Saturday was surreal in the most fantastic way!

I'm so happy that Erin has found someone as great as Chris to spend her life with. Thanks to you both for including me in the festivities! Below are some highlights from the day:

The superstar of the night was this little boy who NAILED the "If you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it" dance!!! When he did this part (below) I thought I was going to die from cuteness overload!!

Raleigh Round Up 2010

Last Friday, Nov. 12, I had the honor of photographing the Raleigh Round Up for the fourth year. Check out the photos I took at last year's round up!

This event takes place every year at the NC State Fairgrounds and raises money for the American Cancer Society. A group of fantastic Raleigh women, The Red Sword Guild, head up the event and spend a lot of time and energy putting it together every year.

As one of Raleigh's premier charity events, the Red Sword Guild gala has raised over $2.5 million over the past 13 years! This money goes to funding research to save lives, government advocacy, community education, and crucial programs that support cancer patients and their families.

One of the best things to do at the Raleigh Round up is sample some of the fantastic foods graciously donated by Chefs for a Cure.

While in Raleigh, I also did three sittings for Images For a Cure! I would love it if they found a cure for this nasty disease in my lifetime! Until then, I'll do all I can to make sure we're still researching!

Ann and Dan at the Venue in Downtown Asheville

I had so much fun last weekend (Nov. 6) with Ann Pearson and Dan Whitney and their incredibly fun group of friends and family! Ann and Dan are both teachers and just really great people all around. I could tell they were both so genuinely excited to marry each other!

Bobby and Mark from Bobbymarks Designs coordinated the event and did an exquisite job! Every little detail was perfect!

Here are some highlights from their wedding day, starting with this photo below which I really just wanted to include to share how remarkable the views were from the 10th floor condos everyone stayed in at the Hotel Indigo downtown (below). I couldn't believe how much of Asheville you could see from these rooms!

Dan (above) cheeses a little for the camera while getting ready! I'm not really sure why I like this shot so much, I think because it really shows Dan's personality.

We set up a "first look" on one of the balconies of the hotel where Ann and Dan could see each other for the first time.

The party started on the trolly (Asheville Trolly Tours) with champagne toasts! This wedding party was SOOO much fun!

Ann's sisters get shielded from the wind!! (above). It was REALLY cold last Saturday. In fact, while we were downtown, a little bit of snow started falling!!! It was very pretty but also very chilly!!!

Lindsay and Adam: Engaged!

I had the BEST time with Lindsay and Adam last Thursday when I met them for their engagement session! I clicked with Lindsay right away when we met earlier in the week, so I was excited that they wanted to to ahead and schedule an engagement shoot while the fall leaves were still on the trees!

I'll be photographing Lindsay and Adam's wedding next September at the Crest Center and after meeting and photographing this couple, I am already looking forward to it!

Reid and Chris' Ridgecrest Wedding

This past Saturday, associate photographer Kate Monroe and I headed out to Ridgecrest for the wedding of Reid Clonts and Chris Haslup. Reid and Chris are so sweet together, I could tell that there was a lot of love there!

The wedding was coordinated brilliantly by Gretchen Howard and everyone had a great time!

Reid carried a beautiful locket with both a photo of she and her father and a photo of Chris as a child.

The couple did a ring warming where their rings were passed around the congregation so everyone could send their good blessings.

Jessie and Ryan in Hickory, NC

It was a great day in Hickory, NC this past Saturday, Oct. 23 at the wedding of Jessie Moore and Ryan Varley. Jessie and Ryan met at NC State and are both currently working on hog farms in Eastern North Carolina. Needless to say, they didn't mind laying down on the ground for the above photo (in fact, it was Jessie's idea!) Also, the bride's mother is the owner of 1859 Cafe, who catered Saturday's events and the food was delicious!

I met Jessie and Ryan last year at the wedding of Julie and Wes Cameron. Ryan proposed to Jessie on Valentines day in 2009 in Blowing Rock. They are currently honeymooning in Valle Crucis.

I had so much fun with Jessie and Ryan and their friends and family! Here are some highlights from their wedding day:

Sarah and Tommy: Engaged!

A couple of weeks ago when I was in Raleigh visiting my new nephew, Marshall, I met with an old friend, Sarah, and her fiancee, Tommy for an engagement session.

It is really exciting to see Sarah so happy and glowing and in love!

I'll be shooting their wedding in Raleigh this coming March and I'm so excited! One of my very favorite things about my job is that I get to reunite and reconnect with old friends during such a special time in their lives. I can't wait to see Sarah in her wedding gown walking down the aisle!

Diane and Billy's Elopement at Old Edwards Inn

This past Sunday, I had the unique honor of being a part of the most intimate of wedding ceremonies. Diane and Billy eloped at the Old Edwards Inn. Their friend and minister, Sarah, did an inspirational job with the ceremony and it really meant a lot to the couple that their close friend conducted the ceremony (and I could tell it meant a lot to Sarah, too). And it meant a lot to me that they chose me to be the other invited guest to document such a meaningful day in their lives.

Diane and Billy were engaged at the Westin Sun Dial in Atlanta, GA (photos beautifully done by Anne and Dan photography). Diane describes herself as a "city girl" and Billy as a "country boy" but one hour with this couple and I could tell that they were just right for each other.

Tiffany and Dustin at Biltmore Inn

This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of being a part of the wedding of Tiffany Thompson and Dustin Kocher at the Biltmore Inn.

It was a perfect fall day, the air was nice and cold, but the sun was still warm during the day. The colors in the leaves were just beginning to change this weekend (they are really vibrant now).

Tiffany and Dustin and their friends and family were so fun to work with (and Tiffany made a stunning bride!)

Here are a few highlights from the day:

Amy and Daniel Engagement

Earlier this month (Oct. 7th), I met with Amy and Daniel at the Asheville Botanical Gardens and the NC Arboretum for some engagement photos. It's been a busy month, so it's taken me a little while to get some photos up on the blog from this fantastic session.

Jennifer and Josh in Pinehurst, NC

I had so much fun last weekend in Pinehurst, NC with Josh and Jen and their friends/family.

This was an incredible group of people to work with (and SO much fun on the dance floor!). Jen was recovering from a cold, but seemed to not let it phase her at all! She was the first and last one on the dance floor and did some awesome twirling in her FABULOUS dress!

Jennifer Stephens of Laura Jennifer Events did a great job coordinating the event and the Fair Barn looked fantastic!

Here are a few highlights from this past Saturday:

Whitney and Andrew (Lauren)

Lauren, Here! Last Saturday, I had the pleasure of photographing Whitney Turner and Andrew Lavoie's beautiful wedding in Statesboro, GA. I met this couple last year at Amy and Kevin's wedding. Whitney was a bridesmaid then and the gorgeous bride this time around!

I remember seeing Whitney and Andrew dancing at that wedding last year and thinking to myself how in love they seemed to be! A few months later they were engaged!

Although these two fell in love while they were in school at UGA, they actually first met at a Georgia Tech party: blasphemy!!

It turned out to be a gorgeous day to tie the knot! The Ceremony was held at Statesboro First United Methodist Church, with the reception at the Nessmith-Lane Building on the Georgia Southern campus. The party at the reception was awesome, complete with some necktie limbo on the dance floor! The newlyweds spent the last week honeymooning in Jamaica and I'm sure they had a blast!!

I had some great help from the talented Jessica Raney.

Whitney and Andrew, I wish you guys all the happiness in the world, you definitely deserve it! You're both beautiful people and I can't thank you enough for including me in your day. I had such a great time with you and your family and friends. xoxo!

Tristan and Jade at the Farm

It was a fabulous day last Saturday, Oct. 2 at the Farm in Candler, NC. Friends and family gathered to celebrate the marriage of Tristan Franklin and Jade Swindell. Shay Brown was the coordinator for the event and every little detail was perfection!

Jade and Tristan met in Illinois where they worked together at a restaurant. Their favorite thing to do together is travel, so it's only appropriate that they are spending their honeymoon in Spain (Madrid and Barcelona).

I had so much fun with this group! There were a lot of emotions, and a lot of dancing and some gorgeous weather! All in all, a fantastic celebration of the love of two best friends!

I've included several photos of the moment where Jade saw Tristan for the first time because it was SO incredible!! I rarely get emotional at weddings, but tears filled my eyes when I say Jade's reaction to seeing his beautiful bride!! This is real love.

One of the great things about weddings at the Farm is that guests aren't confined to one room, they can go outside and feed/pet the horses, watch the sunset, or talk a walk around the beautiful farm.

So cute!

At the end of the night, guests circled Tristan and Jade for a final dance (below). It was quite a moment!

Cassy and Tripper at the Farm

Where do I begin? Cassy and Tripper have so much fun together. They are so obviously best friends and also crazy about each other. I had so much fun being a part of their wedding this past Friday, Oct. 1 at the Farm in Candler, NC.

This weekend, to me, seemed like the first true weekend of fall up here in the mountains and the weather was perfect! There was a lot of love and energy surrounding this couple today. Here are a few photos from Tripper and Cassy's fantastic wedding day:

Tiffany and Jason at the Grand Bohemian

I met Tiffany and Jason earlier this year for some engagement portraits and have been excited about their wedding since then. The day turned out to be even greater than expected!

Tiffany and Jason were married this past friday, Sept. 24, at the Grand Bohemian in Biltmore Village in Asheville, NC alongside friends and family traveling from Ohio, Virginia, and elsewhere.

Tiffany and Jason met at a halloween party and Jason proposed on New Years Eve of 2009. They are currently honeymooning in Maui!

Here are a few highlights from their wedding day:

There was a great moment while Tiffany and the ladies were getting ready!! Her cell phone rang and Wendy, the makeup artist, picked up the phone. "You have a call from 'Hottie McHotterson'", she said! Tiffany had entered Jason in her phone that way when they first met!

There was a great reading from the Velveteen Rabbit (below). I really love this excerpt about what it means to be loved. Here's a little bit:

"Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in your joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."

Jacque and Larry at Biltmore (Lauren)

Lauren, here! Fellow Whitmeyer Photography associate Photographer, Kate Monroe, and I had the pleasure of shooting Jacque and Larry's romantic Biltmore wedding Saturday, Sept. 4. The weather in Asheville was absolutely magnificent and it was a great day to get married: not a cloud in the sky and a high temperature of 76. Perfection!

Jacque and Larry were a stunning couple! Jacque was a knockout of a bride and Larry made quite the hunky military groom! When I would catch these two exchanging flirty looks, it made my heart melt. It's clear that they share a passionate love that I know they'll carry with them for the rest of their lives.

Maura from Honey Darling Events made sure that every little detail of this day went seemlessly and perfectly!

They are honeymooning in Fiji right now!! Amazing!! Jacque and Larry, thank you so much for including us in your very special day!
